Project Objective

JEA contractor crews (Heart Utilities) installed new underground electric infrastructure along Airport Road from the JEA substation facility located at 14153 Urn Road to Ranch Road. This work was completed to add an additional circuit that will serve the surrounding areas. This work will accommodate future growth in the area and provide for better power quality and reliability.

This work included the installation of new electric main feeder line, protective conduit, and electric manholes along the project route. The contractor installed the new conduit with a technique called horizontal directional drilling (HDD). HDD requires very little excavation, reduces construction duration, and is less disruptive to the surrounding community. Once the conduit is installed, JEA contractor crews will then return to install the new electric cables.

Construction Conditions

Construction primarily occurred in City of Jacksonville rights-of-way, roads, and easements.

Restoration of the Project Area

Restoration of the project typically begins 2-3 weeks after the project has been completed. Any existing grass, sprinklers, pavement, curb, gutter, driveways and/or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to its pre-construction condition.
